Spring in Colorado: Blooming Plants for the Season

Seeing your plants come to life and bloom is a great way to begin enjoying the Spring season.

However, March can be a tricky in Colorado. We can have blizzards, hail, rain, drizzle or sunshine with 70 degree temperatures. You never know what type of weather we are going to have this time of year. "We have all four seasons here," we're fond of telling our friends in Florida and southern California. "Sometimes in the same day."

Depending on how much rain and sunshine we experience, some plants may bloom earlier than others from year to year.

If you are considering planting for March blooms, take into consideration how much pruning you would like to do. This will help narrow your selection of plants. Dormant pruning is an option as well if you want each bud to grow more vigorously.

A few of the plants that are blooming in Colorado in March are:

•    Pansies
•    Daffodils
•    Crocuses
•    Miniature Iris
•    Christmas Rose
•    Beaked Yucca
•    Parrot Beak Flower
