Enjoying Colorado Outdoor Spaces: Let's Go Camping!

Camping is so much fun! It’s a great way to get outside and enjoy nature. We are lucky here in Colorado, because we have so many amazing spots to choose from.

Before you decide on a spot, decide what type of camping is best for you and your family:

  • Lake camping
  • Mountain camping
  • Car camping
  • Cabin camping
  • Backpacking

Each of these camping scenarios has their benefits. Choose one that fits the comfort level of most people in your group. Talk to your family and find out if they prefer to be in the middle of nowhere with no other humans around or at a campground with others nearby. Some campgrounds need to be reserved and paid for in advance so make sure to do your homework.

Fire bans may be in place, depending on the weather conditions and where you are in the state. Check into this before heading out. Some areas like National and State Parks have fire bans in place to protect the forest and wildlife from harm.

Here are a few great camping spots in Colorado:

  • Hanging Lake
  • Guanella Pass
  • Wellington Lake
  • Turquoise Lake
  • Pike National Forest
  • White River National Forest
  • Grand Lake
  • Twin Lakes
  • Horsetooth Reservoir
  • Taylor Reservoir
  • O’Haver Lake

Before you head out, make sure you have all of the supplies you need.

  • Plenty of water
  • Food / cooler
  • Bug spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Tent
  • Sleeping bag
  • Fishing gear (if fishing)
  • Flashlights
  • Lighter or matches if you are going to light a fire
  • Plates, cups, utensils for eating
