What if it has snowed recently?
The moisture content of snow varies greatly. “Average” snow to liquid ratio is 10 to 1, meaning 10 inches of snowfall is required to produce 1 inch of liquid precipitation. Therefore, if your area has received less than 20” of snow, your trees are in need of water!
Water and Your Landscape
Without adequate moisture your landscape cannot survive. Drought stressed trees and shrubs are more susceptible to insects and disease. Twigs and branches become dry and brittle. Leaves or needles can scorch and drop. Trees that cost hundreds or thousands of dollars to replace can suddenly begin to decline if the critical water shortage is not corrected.
